No awards scheme better than VGMA in Ghana – Okraku Mantey

Music producer and C.E.O of Slip Entertainment, Mark Okraku Mantey says there is no awards scheme in Ghana which is better than the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

He said this in reaction to a recent social media campaign against the awards scheme that has existed for 20 years.

Fans of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy who were unhappy with the indefinite ban placed on the artistes by the VGMA board contributed to the hash tag #VGMABeScam on Twitter to discredit the scheme.

Mark Okraku Mantey challenged critics of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) to mention any awards scheme better than the VGMAs.

’’None of them come close. I am throwing a challenge. Anyone who knows any awards scheme in this country that you watch and see that this awards scheme is glamorous, it looks close to what we witness in the West. The only one that we can brag of is VGMA’’, he stated.

Mark Okraku Mantey said that unlike the VGMA by Charterhouse, many of the awards events in Ghana are struggling.

’’Music video awards…has done relatively well but you still can’t compare that to VGMA. Show me any awards scheme that you know….You watch all of them, see if you will see any that looks like a scheme that money has been spent to deliver’’, he challenged.

Charterhouse is expected release list of nominees for the 2020 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards soon.
