Dancehall artiste, Jupitar has reiterated the opinion shared by many stakeholders on the fact that the confusion caused during the 2019 VGMAs has seriously impacted negatively on the fortunes of the genre, dancehall.
Speaking in an interview on Zylofon FM, Jupitar did not doubt dancehall having its ‘violence’ part but says he expected Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy to display a high level of decency on that day.
He, however, questioned the rationale behind the call for peace among dancehall acts.
“We don’t need no peace in dancehall… Peace for what? Are we some sort of freedom fighters? he quizzed.
In his opinion, the fire and heat of dancehall is only fuelled by the constant rivalry between the artiste. He says it is what keeps them on their toes.
The artiste is of the opinion that, that the smoked peace pipe now has had a major impact on the vitality of dancehall.
Jupitar pointed out famous feuds between the likes of Beenie man versus Mavado, Vybz Kartel versus Mavado, Vybz Kartel versus Ninja man and says that saw the energy in dancehall rejuvenating from time to time.
