TEWU-Gh statement an attempt to sow confusion among Junior Staff of Technical Universities – TEWU-TUC

The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union of the Trade Union Congress, Ghana, says the statement by TEWU-GH is to bring confusion among the Junior Staff of the public and Technical Universities.

The leadership of TEWU-TUC described TEWU-GH as a breakaway faction with no legal mandate, no bargaining certificate, and no moral authority to speak on behalf of its members.

This was in a statement signed by King James Azortibah, the General Secretary of TEWU-TUC, copied to the Ghana News Agency.

“Their actions are nothing but a desperate bid to mislead workers and undermine the legitimate struggle for better conditions of service,” the statement said.

It said for over 65 years, TEWU of TUC had been the sole, legally recognised and internationally respected union for Junior Staff in all Public and Technical Universities.

The Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), and the National Labour Commission recognise TEWU of TUC as the exclusive bargaining agent.

It said the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) had signed the rules of engagement only with TEWU of TUC-Ghana and not with the Technical University Workers Association of Ghana or any other faction.

The statement called on all Junior Staff in Public and Technical Universities to stand with TEWU of TUC-Ghana and fully participate in the ongoing strike action.

It called on all to ignore and reject with contempt any statements from TEWU-GH, TUWAG, or any other usurpers.

“This strike is about your welfare, your future, and your dignity. Let us remain united, resolute, and unyielding until our legitimate demands are met. Unity is Strength — Solidarity Forever,” it said.
