Mr. Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ho Central Constituency, on Tuesday donated 15,000 customised exercise books to public schools in the municipality.
He said the donation was part of his commitment to supporting education in his constituency.
The books, which were designed with cultural motifs reflecting the rich traditions of the Volta Region, were presented during a brief ceremony attended by education officials, teachers, parents, and pupils.
Mr. Kpotosu said the gesture was his way of contributing to the academic growth of children and instilling in them a sense of cultural pride.
“Education is the foundation of our future. It is vital that we provide our children with the tools to live and succeed,” he said.
He explained that the customised designs were meant to remind pupils of their identity while inspiring them to dream big. “These books are more than just stationery; they represent ambition and the endless possibilities that lie ahead,” he added.
The MP thanked teachers for their dedication and parents for their continuous support, urging all stakeholders to work together to create a brighter future for the children.
“Commitment plays a crucial role in the educational journey. Together, we can give our children the best opportunities to succeed,” he noted.
He appealed to parents and guardians to instill discipline, guide their children in the use of social media, and nurture a love for reading.
“Not everything children see online is good for them. Parents and teachers must move faster than the children to keep them on the right path,” he cautioned.
The MP disclosed that the exercise books would be distributed to transitional classes across the constituency, stressing that they were meant strictly for the learners.
“This donation is for the children, not for any headmaster, teacher, or parent to keep in offices or homes,” he warned.
As part of broader interventions, Mr. Kpotosu announced that a programme was being designed to provide new school uniforms for pupils in need.
“We are working to ensure no child feels left out because of torn or worn-out uniforms,” he assured.
He also pledged to make UCMATHS learning materials available to all children in the constituency, adding that a pilot programme had already begun.
“We will conduct baseline surveys to track progress and adjust the programme to suit our learners,” he explained.
The MP encouraged children to seize every learning opportunity, read widely, and build their vocabulary.
“Keep reading every day. Even if you learn one new word, it adds value to your growth,” he advised.
Dr. Esther Adzo Yeboah-Adzimah, Ho Municipal Education Director, commended the MP for his continuous support to schools. She encouraged pupils to study hard under the new standard-based curriculum, which requires critical thinking.
“Times have changed. Success now demands more creativity and problem-solving, not rote learning,” she reminded them.
She urged parents to complement the efforts of teachers by guiding children at home, stressing that education must be a shared responsibility.
“Teachers spend time with your children, but parents spend even more. Your input is vital,” she said.
Togbe Adu-Bobi IV, Afetorfia of Ho-Bankoe, also praised the MP’s focus on education, describing him as a leader who had consistently invested in the constituency’s human capital. He called on teachers to redouble their efforts in instilling discipline and nurturing responsible citizens.
In addition to the exercise books, Mr. Kpotosu donated 20 buckets of paint to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Dela Parish, Ho-Kpodzi, on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
It was his second consecutive donation, further demonstrating his support for both education and community development.
Community members expressed appreciation for the MP’s initiative and called for more such interventions to address the challenges facing schools in Ho.
