TaMA pushes for urgent repairs of faulty traffic lights in Tamale

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) has called on the Department of Urban Roads to act swiftly to repair malfunctioning traffic signals at key intersections in the city to ensure safety, and ease traffic congestion.

The faulty signals, located at intersections near the Fosmuel Shopping Centre, the Gulkpe Naa’s Palace, and parts of the Agric traffic light, have caused frustration among road users and raised concerns about the risk of accidents.

A press release signed by Mr Amadu Mustapha Zakari, Public Relations Officer of TaMA, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the Assembly was fully aware of public concerns and had been engaging the Department of Urban Roads to expedite action on the repairs.

“The Assembly acknowledges and shares the frustration of residents and motorists who are facing challenges relating to traffic flow and safety due to this recurring problem,” it said.

It explained that the responsibility for maintaining and repairing urban road infrastructure, including traffic lights, rested with the Department of Urban Roads, and stressed that despite previous efforts made, the situation required a more urgent and lasting solution.

TaMA said it had also notified the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service to provide traffic direction at critical points until the signals were restored.

The Assembly urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution and strictly observe traffic regulations while the problem persisted.

It reassured residents of its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to resolve the issue and improve road safety in the metropolis.
