Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is leading the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries race, according to a recent poll.
The survey, conducted by Dr Evans Duah of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), sampled 26,150 delegates- representing 12.76 per cent of the total delegate population of 204,890.
It showed Mr Agyapong, former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, securing 44.11 per cent support in the worst-case scenario.
Presenting the findings at a press briefing in Accra on Monday, Dr Duah noted that Mr Agyapong’s support had increased significantly from 41.73 per cent in a similar poll conducted in August 2025.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President, followed with 39.51 per cent, a marginal rise from his August figure of 39.09 per cent.
The poll, conducted between September 22 and October 5, 2025, employed a dual model: the worst-case scenario based on delegates’ stated intent, and the best-case scenario based on their next best alternative.
Results for other candidates were Dr Bryan Acheampong with 6.28 per cent, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum with 3.19 per cent, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong with 0.86 per cent.
The survey also revealed a six per cent undecided and undisclosed rate in the worst-case scenario, suggesting a potential run-off as no candidate crossed the 50 per cent plus one threshold.
In the best-case scenario, Mr Agyapong was projected to reach 53.8 per cent, while Dr Bawumia’s maximum potential stood at 39 per cent.
Analysing regional performance, Dr Duah indicated that Mr Agyapong currently leads in nine regions: Ashanti, Ahafo, Bono, Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, Upper West, Western, and Western North.
Dr Bawumia maintains a strong lead in the remaining seven regions, particularly the Northern bloc- North East, Northern, Savannah, Upper East, Bono East, Volta, and Oti.
Dr Duah stated that the contest between Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia remained highly competitive, describing it as a two-horse race.
He observed that momentum appeared to favour Mr Agyapong, who had recorded a notable increase in support compared to Dr Bawumia’s marginal rise since August.
Dr Duah indicated that the poll represented a snapshot rather than a forecast.
He urged all candidates to intensify their campaigns, noting that delegate sentiment was subject to considerable fluctuation.
