Mr Ibrahim Bukari Baba, the Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will be unfair for the party to deny the former Vice President Ahaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia the second chance to lead the party in the Election 2028.
He said Alhaji Dr Bawumia proved his competencies and integrity when he was the vice president, and the 2024 presidential candidate of the party.
Speaking in an interview with the media at Techiman, Mr Baba urged the NPP delegates to make informed decisions and endorse the former vice president when they go to polls to elect the party’s Election 2028 flagbearer on January 31, 2026.
He was speaking to the media to round off a four-day campaign tour undertaken by Alhaji Dr Bawumia’s Bono East Regional campaign team.
Mr Baba explained that the tour enabled the campaign team to market the potential of the former vice president and to woo the votes of the NPP delegates for Alhaji Dr Bawuwia as the party prepares for the Presidential Primary.
“The NPP must present Alhaji Dr Bawumia again as its Election 2028 flagbearer because he is tested and proven”, he stated.
He said: “Our great party has a repetitive history of our flagbearers and Bawumia must also be given the same chance”.
Mr Baba said as the regional chairman, he welcomed all the five presidential aspirants contesting the primary, however, added that Alhaji Dr Bawumia remained the best aspirant if the party could regain political power in the Election 2028.
“In fact, analysis shows that with Bawumia the party’s quest to re-capture political power in the 2028 General Election will be easier”, he stated.
Mr Baba urged the delegates “not be swayed by financial or material influences,” rather by guided by the NPP’s political history and vote massively for Alhaji Dr Bawumia when they go to polls.
