Mr. Joachim Potakey, the Principal of the Nkwanta Community Vocational Training Institute in the Oti Region, has expressed concern over the negative impact of the ongoing conflict in the area on the institution’s progress.
Mr. Potakey in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a visit to the institution, noted that the unrest has slowed down the school’s mission to empower community members through skills training aimed at promoting job creation and self-reliance.
He revealed that about 200 trainees have successfully completed the programme as part of the institution’s first batch of students.
He said the school operates under the Government of Ghana, German Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) partnership, which seeks to strengthen technical and vocational education across the country.
Mr. Potakey encouraged residents of the area and beyond to take advantage of the training opportunities available at the institute.
He highlighted key courses such as cosmetology, garment making, and welding, which provide valuable hands-on skills for sustainable employment and entrepreneurship.
