Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), has commended Women in Aviation International, Ghana Chapter for their continued efforts in inspiring and empowering young women to pursue careers in the aviation industry.
She told the young ladies that aviation was not just about flying planes but was about team work, innovation, service and connection; connecting people, cultures and economies.
Mrs Opare was speaking at the observance of the 11th Girls in Aviation Day at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

The Day is celebrated globally by the various chapters of Women in Aviation International (WAI) to inspire, educate and empower girls between the ages of eight and 18 to pursue careers in the aviation industry.
In Ghana, the event was organized by WAI, Ghana Chapter comprising women professionals working in the Aviation Industry.
The event was on the theme: “Inspiring the next generation of women in aviation.”
Selected students from Tema Senior High School, Methodist Day Senior High School, Peki Senior High School, Accra High School, Corpus Christi Senior High School and African Science Academy were sponsored for this year’s event.
She noted that the industry thrived on passion, discipline and a desire to make a difference in people’s lives through the power of travel and technology.
She encouraged the young women to pursue careers in aviation such as Pilots, Engineers, Air Traffic Controllers, airport Managers among others.

‘”I look forward to the day when many of you will return as professional, leading teams, managing operations, and inspiring the next generation of women in aviation,’’ Mrs Opare said.
Mrs. Juliet Okae, the President of Women in Aviation Ghana Chapter, emphasised that the theme sought to give students insights into the aviation industry.
She indicated that the Ghana Chapter had been dedicated to promoting and advancing women and girls in the aviation since 2015.
She said Girls in Aviation Day was observed annually in over 19 countries, with over 150 events planned across the globe.
She announced that next year, the celebration would be observed in the Northern Region to give the girls an opportunity to learn more about the aviation industry.
