The Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG) has held its 2nd National Delegates Congress, with a call on African countries to renew their determination to resist imperialism.
The congress was on the theme: “Imperialism in Crises: Pan-African Solidarity and Socialist Transformation.”
Mr Joshua Ansah, the Secretary-General of the Trade Union Congress (Ghana) made the call at the event held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Amilcar Cabral School at Agyanoa, Aburi in the Eastern Region.
He said: “Let this Congress inspire us to renew our determination, to organise more effectively, and to fight more courageously for a future where wealth serves humanity, where freedom is real, and where solidarity is the guiding principle of our societies.”
He said the crisis of imperialism also opens new possibilities for resistance, but however added that, “But let us be clear: unless we organise and mobilise, Africa will remain a pawn in global power struggles.”
Mr Ansah said the congress should serve as a platform for dialogue, strategising and collective action and to provide an opportunity to strengthen the bonds between the labour movement and socialist organisations.
It should also serve as a call to action to resist exploitation, to defend our sovereignty, and to lay the foundations for a just and humane society.
He said the TUC’s role in socialist transformation could not be underestimated, stating that, “The labour movement has always been a critical actor in the fight against exploitation and injustice.
“From the anti-colonial struggles to the fight for democracy and social justice, trade unions have stood with the masses.”
He congratulated the leadership of the SMG, particularly the Secretary General, Mr Kwesi Pratt Jnr for his commitment to justice, solidarity, and socialism, which had inspired many across generations.
The Iranian Embassy in Ghana in a solidarity message said the crisis of imperialism was not only economic or political, but moral.
“We see hegemony system impose unilateral sanctions on sovereign countries, suffocating their economies, weaponizing financial systems, and depriving ordinary people of their right to food, medicine, and development,” it stated.
It further said, “We see wars waged under the pretext of ‘democracy’ or ‘security,’ while in truth they seek only to secure resources and expand spheres of influence.
“And in the face of these challenges, the peoples of Africa, Asia, and Latin America are finding their voice again. It tells us that imperialism can no longer dictate the destiny of nations, because nations are reclaiming the power to shape their own futures.”
The embassy said the solidarity of countries must aimed at building new systems such as economic, political, and cultural, that serve the people, but not hegemony powers.
It said socialist transformation was the vision that ensured resources were not used for the profit of only few people, but shared for the welfare of everybody, adding, “It ensures that destiny is not reserved for the powerful, but belongs to every man and woman.”
It said the crises of imperialism were also opportunities, and that when empires weaken, new spaces emerged for cooperation, innovation, and strengthen cooperation, and to advance the cause of a more just, multipolar world.
“Iran stands ready to walk hand in hand with Ghana and with Africa in this noble pursuit, stressing “ladies and gentlemen the world is changing. The future will belong not to those who dominate, but to those who unite. History shows that it is the united peoples who always prevail,” he concluded.
Mr Kwesi Pratt Jnr in a welcoming address said the SMA Central Committee strongly denounced the pursuit of the neo-liberal path to development in Ghana and advocated a return to the Pan African Socialist agenda of the Nkrumah government.

The Committee declared support for the patriotic revolutions unfolding in the Sahel States, while supporting the people of Palestine in their bold struggle for statehood and denounce the genocide being committed by the Zionist State of Israel with support of the capitalist states and their surrogates.
