The Akatsi South Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has embarked on a series of activities to mark its 28 years of firefighting excellence and safety education in the area.
The celebration, which would record activities such as an awareness-creation float, a school-children’s familiarization visit, sporting activities, public education on safety, a clean-up exercise, and a jama night, is on the theme: “Two Decades plus Eight years of Firefighting Excellence.”
This was announced by Divisional Officer Grade III Mr Savior Alderson Coffie, the Akatsi South Municipal Fire Commander, during a simulation exercise at the St Paul’s Hospital Ltd at Akatsi as part of their week-long activities.
“As part of efforts to promote fire safety search and rescue awareness in our communities, we have organised a fire safety and simulation exercise at St. Paul’s as part of the 28th year’s anniversary celebration,” Mr Coffie said.
He also indicated that the simulation exercise was aimed at enhancing rescue and firefighting skills of firefighters, while showcasing their operation preparedness to the public.
Meanwhile, a statement released by Fireman Yevu Senyo Lawrence, the acting Akatsi South Public Relations Officer, indicated that “Alongside testing emergency procedures, the collaborative effort also emphasised the importance of prompt reporting and response to emergencies and adherence to fire safety protocol.”
The statement said the display was targeted at exposing residents to the efforts to mitigate the prevalence of fire outbreaks in the Municipality as well as reinforcing the commitment to public safety.
The climax of activities is slated for Friday, October 31 at the Agbedrafor School Park, where several dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion.
