Mr Patrick Dela Newman, the Bono Regional Director of Agriculture says they will soon receive 10,000 birds for the implementation of the government’s “Nkoko Nkitinki” programme.
He said the directorate had built the capacity of 20 poultry farmers who would be supported to keep and handle the birds before their onward distribution to the beneficiary farmers in the region.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Newman said the farmers would also be provided with vaccination and cages, saying the directorate was fully prepared to facilitate the successful implementation of the programme.
He said the distribution of the birds would be done through the registered and recognized farmer-based organisations in the region, and urged poultry farmers to register with those organisations to benefit.
However, he urged the farmers who had no group to join to contact the Agriculture Extension Officers at their localities.
On the implementation of the Feed Ghana programme, Mr Newman advised Basic and second cycle institutions in the region to leverage on that and engage in commercial farming.
He said some of the schools in the region had already been selected and would be provided with agriculture inputs and crops, and also supported to engage in livestock production too.
