Nana Oppong Taa Senti, the Chief of Abi, a farming community in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region has appealed for extension of electricity to the area.
He said extension of electricity would open up the area, create job opportunities, and spur rapid socio-economic growth and development.
Nana Senti made the appeal when he addressed a durbar of chiefs and people of the area at Abi to climax the celebration of the Annual Munufie Yam Festival of the people.
The chief expressed the regret that the Abi community lacked development though one of the oldest communities in the area and called on the government to improve infrastructure development.
Nana Senti called on natives of the area and residents abroad, to contribute their quota towards the development of the community.
Nana Afia Ankama Bema III, the Queen of the area, performed some rituals and called their ancestors’ intervention towards facilitating the development of the community.
She said it was unfortunate that the community lagged in development despite the people’s contributions towards food production in the district and beyond.
Mr Collins Asomah, the Berekum West District Chief Executive, said the plans were far advanced for the construction of a modern Junior High School block, a market, and a mechanised borehole in the community.
He urged the people to be patient, saying their concerns would be tackled.
