Eastern Regional Labour Department has held a vocational guidance session for students of Abobibiri D/A Basic School in the Ayensuano District.
This is to help them to identify career paths and align their studies with future ambitions.
The counselling session, which engaged about 50 students, helped them to discover their interests, strengths, and future career paths.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Justice Opare, Eastern Regional Labour Officer, stated that the counselling school talk was designed to unveil students’ potentials and help them fulfil their career aspirations.
He explained that topics discussed included skilled and unskilled jobs, challenges in employment seeking, exploring personal interests and strengths, and identifying career options and pathways.
“Such education and training could prepare the school children for the labour market to enhance employability,” Mr. Opare said.
He encouraged students to align their studies with their career ambitions, noting that strategic academic choices help shape long-term success.
“Without this alignment, you may find yourself pursuing opportunities that do not contribute to your long-term objectives,” he added.
Mr. Opare emphasized that vocational guidance and counselling was a unique function of the Labour Department and served as a strong catalyst in empowering students and setting them up for success.
“In the national perspective, it plays a pivotal role in shaping a nation’s workforce and driving economic progress,” he noted.
On behalf of the students, Mr. Lawrence Ayisi Amaning, Assistant Headteacher of Abobibiri D/A Basic School, expressed gratitude to the Labour Department for the initiative.
He assured that the students would be further guided to abide by the advice and guidance received to build a vibrant future.
