The Juaben Municipal Health Directorate has taken a proactive step in promoting the health and well-being of its community members by organising a breast cancer screening and awareness exercise.
Held at the Juaben Old Circuit Court premises, the programme offered free cancer screenings, blood pressure checks, weight monitoring, and counselling on regular health check-ups.
Held under the theme, “A Cure Worth Fighting For,” the event kicked off with a health walk through the principal streets of Juaben, featuring impactful inscriptions such as “Prioritise Breast Exams”, “Breast Cancer id Deadly” and “We Can Reduce Cancer Cases,” among others.
Mrs. Jualina Akomea Opoku, the Municipal Director of Health Services, speaking at the event, stated that the exercise aimed to raise awareness on breast cancer prevention and early detection, highlighting the rights and well-being of women and older persons.
She emphasised the need for early detection and proper treatment, noting that breast cancer affects both young and older women, with significant impacts on families and communities.
She urged community members to seek screening and self-examination as a life-saving practice and to know their status before it’s too late.
Mrs. Akomea Opoku also called for an end to the stigma surrounding breast cancer victims and advised pregnant women to visit nearby health facilities for regular medical care.
Mr. Caleb Adu Agyemang, Presiding Member (PM) for the Juaben Municipal Assembly, who represented the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, stressed the importance of self-examination, encouraging women to conduct regular check-ups to identify potential issues early.
He noted that breast cancer affects the entire community, urging market women to take advantage of the free screening opportunity.
Hundreds of Juaben natives, students, and residents from surrounding communities were screened by healthcare professionals.
