Her Ladyship, Justice Hafisata Amaliboba, a justice of the Supreme Court, has urged staff of the Judicial Service to exhibit professionalism in the discharge of their duties to protect the integrity and sanctity of the service.
She said professionalism of the staff was crucial considering the significant role the Judicial Service played in the governance of the country through administration of justice and maintaining law and order among others.
Speaking at a Judicial Service of Ghana (JSG) staff durbar in Wa, Justice Amaliboba warned that any staff of the service who misconducts him or herself would be sanctioned accordingly.
The JSG staff durbar was an annual event for the staff and management of the Service to engage, deliberate and dialogue on matters affecting the delivery of justice and the welfare of staff.
Justice Amaliboba, who represented His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, the Acting Chief Justice, at the durbar, acknowledged the challenges the staff faced, especially regarding their conditions of service.
She said a constitutional instrument containing comprehensive conditions of service for the JSG staff would soon come to force.
“So, I’m happy to inform you that the attorney general has laid the regulations before parliament and it is expected that same will become law upon the inflection of 21 days.
We, therefore, expect that with a new CI enforced, your conditions of service will improve significantly”, she explained.
She added that the constitutional instrument would also make provisions for efficient service delivery and disciplinary measures to ensure compliance with highest ethical standards required of the Service.
Dr. Cyracus B. Bapuuroh, the Acting judicial Secretary, encouraged strong collaboration between the staff and management of the Judicial Service to ensure the delivery of optimum services to the public.
He also entreated the staff to follow due processes in seeking their annual or study leave, and to pursue courses relevant to the Service for their certificates to be recognised for promotion.
Dr. Bapuuroh commended the media for its collaboration with the Judicial Service over the years in keeping the populace informed about legal proceedings and the justice administration in the country.
“The media play a very critical role in shaping public opinion and fostering a better understanding of the judiciary’s role in our democracy”, he explained.
His Honour Alhaji Yussif Assibey, the Supervising High Court Judge, Wa, thanked the management of the Judicial Service for initiating steps to enhance the High Court in Wa.
“Indeed, the Court Complex is our target, it is our prayer that sooner than later, that magnificent edifice will be completed for our use”, he stated.
Some of the staff suggested support for the interpreters to learn the French language to help break the language barrier in their service delivery.
Retired staff of the JSG were also recognised with cash amounts and certificates during the durbar for their dedicated service.
