Kadjebi mourns the loss of ‘Korea’

The Kadjebi community in the Oti Region has been thrown into a state of mourning following the sudden death of a young and vibrant man, Asimiu Yakubu Amoah, affectionately known as “Korea.”

The deceased, who passed after a short illness, was widely known for his humility, hard work, and commitment to community development.

His passing, according to residents, is a great loss to the district and to Ghana as a whole.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited Balaki Spot, a popular drinking spot in Kadjebi, around 2035 hours on Saturday, November 1, numerous young persons were seen in deep sorrow, consoling one another over the untimely demise of “Korea.”

Mr. Balaki, owner of Balaki Spot, described the late Korea as a respectful, dedicated, and visionary young man whose efforts towards unity and growth in Kadjebi were invaluable.

“He was always ready to help others and full of ideas that inspired the youth. We have lost a true gem,” Mr. Balaki said in a mournful tone.

Other residents who spoke with the GNA shared similar sentiments. They described him as a role model who consistently encouraged young people to shun social vices and pursue education and hard work.

Madam Adjoa Amankwa, a trader in Kadjebi, said: “He was a fine gentleman who respected everyone and had a bright future ahead of him.”

Although the cause of death was not immediately made known, news of his passing spread rapidly across the district, drawing mourners and sympathisers from neighbouring communities to the bereaved family’s residence.

Residents have since continued to gather in groups, sharing fond memories of Korea and reflecting on his positive influence in the community. Many described his passing as a stark reminder of life’s fragility and the importance of nurturing the dreams of young people.

During the 2024 general elections, Korea represented the Ghetto Youth group in signing a peace pact with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

He pledged to ensure peace before, during, and after the polls in the Akan Constituency, which had previously been regarded as a flashpoint constituency.

Korea passed away on the evening of Friday, October 31, and was buried on Saturday, November 1 in accordance with Islamic customs and traditions.
