The United Nations Security Council on Friday adopted a new resolution reaffirming the pre-eminence of Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative, marking a significant diplomatic milestone in the Kingdom’s long-standing efforts to resolve the Sahara issue.
The resolution is widely seen as a validation of the strategic vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, whose leadership has steered Morocco’s foreign policy with clarity, consistency and legitimacy since his accession to the Throne in 1999.
Morocco’s diplomacy, under the King’s guidance, has evolved into a proactive and multidimensional force, rooted in the principles of sovereignty, dialogue and solidarity.
Far from being reactive, Morocco’s diplomacy operates within a long-term framework — faithful to the principle of State continuity and to a gradual, steady consolidation of the Kingdom’s position on the world stage.
This approach has positioned the Kingdom as a stabilizing actor in both regional and international affairs.
A key pillar of Morocco’s foreign policy is its African engagement. His Majesty has undertaken over 50 official visits to more than thirty African countries, promoting South-South cooperation through initiatives focused on co-development, human capital and transformative investment.
The Kingdom’s return to the African Union in 2017, the Atlantic Initiative to connect coastal African states, and the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project are emblematic of Morocco’s pan-African vision.
In the Arab world, Morocco maintains balanced and principled diplomacy. Strategic partnerships with Gulf nations have been strengthened, while the Kingdom continues to uphold the Palestinian cause.
As Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, His Majesty has led diplomatic and humanitarian efforts aimed at promoting peace and justice.
Morocco’s foreign policy also reflects a commitment to diversified international partnerships. While maintaining strong ties with traditional allies such as the United States, France, Spain and the United Kingdom, the Kingdom has expanded cooperation with emerging powers including China, Russia and India.
On the multilateral front, Morocco plays an active role within the United Nations system, advocating for inclusive and equitable global governance.
With nearly 2,000 peacekeepers deployed in UN missions, the Kingdom demonstrates its commitment to peace, stability and human rights.
The recent Security Council vote consolidates Morocco’s international standing and affirms the legitimacy of its approach to the Sahara issue.
Today, over 125 countries support the Moroccan Autonomy Plan.
Meanwhile, Morocco’s Southern Provinces are witnessing unprecedented development, driven by the New Development Model launched by His Majesty to ensure prosperity and full territorial integration.
Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco continues to champion a foreign policy of conviction — one that is coherent, legitimate and anchored in the values of peace, cooperation and shared progress.
Through his international stature and personal engagement, His Majesty has positioned Morocco as a central actor in defending just causes, promoting dialogue and building a world founded on peace, cooperation and shared progress.
