The Upper East Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has received 42 entries from 18 journalists for the 4th Regional GJA Awards, recording the highest participation since the awards began in 2019.
The entries, which included works published and broadcast on radio, television, print, and online platforms, were submitted before the close of entries at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
A press release issued by Mr Anthony Adongo Apubeo, the Upper East Secretary of the Association, indicated that all submissions have been compiled and forwarded to the Vetting Committee to begin evaluation.
Mr Albert Sore, the Regional Chairman of the GJA, in the release, described the turnout as remarkable and a demonstration of the growing relevance of the awards.
“I am very happy that many people have showed interest in this year’s awards and making it very competitive. We have not had this number since we started our regional awards, and it is good that we are making a lot of progress,” he said in the release.
He commended all entrants for their commitment and professionalism, adding that, “We also wish all entrants the very best as the Vetting Committee begins its work. May the journalists who have demonstrated quality work win.”
The 4th Regional GJA Awards is scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2025, on the theme: “Upholding Public Trust: The Role of the Media in Promoting Accountable Governance in the Upper East Region.”
The awards scheme is expected to continue serving as an important platform to recognise, reward, and inspire excellence in journalism in the Upper East region, while reinforcing the Association’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and ethical standards.
