Zoomlion, partners organize clean-up exercise in Techiman municipality

The Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL), a waste management and sanitation has organised a clean-up exercise in Techiman to rid the Bono East regional capital of filth.

With support from the Techiman Municipal Assembly, youth associations and fun clubs, the exercise which lasted for about five hours saw personnel from about public and private institutions desilting choked gutters and clearing and sweeping weedy surroundings.

The turnout was so impressive that most shops and stores in the capital were all closed, as assembly members, chiefs and queens as well as football clubs and security agencies participated in the exercise.

Addressing the participants, Mr Emmanuel Abasiya, the Bono East Regional Coordinator of the ZGL commended them, saying the exercise was part of efforts of the company to help manage the sanitation situation in the municipality.

He said: “It’s prudent to realize that living in a clean environment promotes good health and spurs rapid socio-economic growth and development”.

Mr Abasiya emphasised the company’s commitment to improve waste management and sanitation in the Bono East Region and called for effective collaboration between stakeholders to create a cleaner environment.

Mr Kwaku Agyei Mensah, the Techiman Municipal Chief Executive lauded the exercise, saying it aligned with the government’s vision in keeping a clean environment and thereby averting the outbreaks of infectious and communicable diseases.

He said the assembly would continue to strengthen its partnership with the ZGL to ensure a healthier environment for the people to enjoy good health as aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Mr Mensah said sanitation by-laws would be enforced strictly to ensure that the people refrained from littering around and dumping refuse indiscriminately.
